If you have found a dog, please call the Council in which you have found it
Stray Dogs
- Councils are legally obliged to deal with stray dogs found within their boroughs 24/7.
- A finder of a stray is obliged to forthwith return the dog to its owner or take it to the
- local authority. Failure to do so is a criminal offence.
- By law, when your dog is outside it is required to wear a collar with the name & address
- of the owner inscribed on the collar or a plate or badge attached to it.
- If you fail to comply you are committing a criminal offence and you are less likely that
- you will get your dog back if it strays.
- Please see your council website where your dog was found for fees & charges.
- We recommend you have your dog microchiped (in 2016 this will be a legal requirement).
- CES caries out free microchipping days throughout the year, please contact us for details.
- We have an active re-homing programme for abandoned dogs & puppies.
